The Acorn Project was inspired by our founder Theresa Alexander.
Years ago she knew troubled teen boys were not getting the help they needed, and she was inspired to grow a better future. With your help we can build a home and teach practical life skills to build teens into young men of integrity. |
Transform BehaviorsMany teens who come from neglectful homes typically have a tough time readjusting to society as an adult. We aim to heal and encourage at a young age to prevent and lower rates of abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
|
Boost College Attendance70% of children in foster care say they would like to go to college. Fewer than 3% of children in foster care will go on to earn a college degree. We intend to prepare these children better for college and transform the attitudes of the other 30% to encourage a brighter future.
|
Create Employment Opportunities50% of children who are in foster care are employed by the 24. 20% of them will become homeless. We'll provide mentors and family support uniquely boost employment rates and integrate a seamless transition program.
|
Mentorship Unlike most foster care Residential Treatment Centers (RTCs), we provide mentors for every one of our boys. This is crucial as 90%-95% of kids in our program will come from abusive homes. Our goal is to provide an honorable male support system for those who haven't had the privilege, to encourage them in the right direction, and guide them towards a career |
Faith Based Values
Every one of our staff will be dedicated to guide through faith based values. This does not by any means imply we will teach faith based values, but we will provide options like bible studies and church services to learn on their own. This is something that we hold dear to our hearts, and is a great tool we have at our disposal. |
Experienced Professional Staff
Often Residential Treatment Centers have training programs that can train just about anyone with a high school diploma. Instead, we want professional staff with college degrees, certifications, and proven experience in behavioral therapy with teenagers BEFORE they go through training. |
